Shortly after graduating with her bachelor degree in Opera Theatre from The Juilliard School in New York, America Olivo and three band mates formed the harmonic music group Soluna. They signed a multi-million dollar contract with DreamWorks Records, SKG with whom they had a #1 selling single, For All Time, and a #1 dance hit, Bring It To Me, co-written by Olivo. After proving to be successful on stage and radio, the network UPN developed a scripted half hour pilot around America Olivo and Soluna produced collectively with Paramount Pictures and dePasse Entertainment. As a music group, Soluna’s success led them throughout the United States and Latin America opening for major tours like Enrique Iglesias and Marc Anthony. They graced such stages as Radio City Music Hall, Madison Square Gardens, and the Staples Center also performing with such artists as Celine Dion, Mariah Carey, No Doubt, Elton John, Shakira, Nelly, Destiny’s Child, Alanis Morisette, Stevie Wonder, and many more.
After the shift of the music industry in 2004, Soluna disbanded and America Olivo continued to pursue a career in acting. She has appeared in series such as How I met Your Mother, House, M.D., General Hospital, NCIS:LA, Law and Order, Warehouse 13, Chicago PD, Defiance and more. With her experience in TV, she was able to cross over once again, into a new area of entertainment, film. She has starred in films such as Friday the 13th (2009), Bitch Slap, No One Lives, Conception, Circle, The Last Resort, Transformers 2, Iron Man, Neighbor, and the remake of Maniac.
As a solo singer/songwriter, Olivo charted on Billboard with her dance single “Déjà vu” and has contributed to the soundtracks of both Bitch Slap and Neighbor. Olivo appeared on the cover of the June 2009 issue of Playboy as a celebrity with pictorial as well as Maxim UK and Maxim en Espanol, and the covers of CMD magazine, Latino Future, People en Espanol and more.
In 2010, Olivo moved back to New York to appear as Arachne in Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark, the Broadway musical directed by Julie Taymor. She is currently appearing on Degrassi: The Next Generation in Toronto and dividing her time between Canada and the US.
America Olivo is happily married to her husband of 8 years, Christian Campbell. Olivo is also currently raising money and awareness for Baby Quest Foundation, a grant program to help infertile, same sex couples, and singles with the high costs of fertility treatments.
